Someone was shot on 117th and 7th ave in Harlem tonight. The police had 117th blocked off from Lenox ave to ACP. So I walk up to 2 police officers, one black and one asian and asked ” Excuse me but what exactly happened here, was someone shot? The Asian officer looks at me, clearly hearing what I said and says to me “You can’t walk on this side , you have to walk on the other side of the street” with a slight authoritative tone. The black officer looked at me like he wanted to say something but he just said “something happen”. So I say to the officers “I live around here and I just like to know what happened around my neighborhood, having sons I always ask”. Both still just said that there was a incident. So I went across the street and asked two women sitting on a stoop what happened, they said oh someone got shot but he be aaight , he good. Now understanding that both were not white but still had a stand off attitudes is something that’s a issue. They are teaching these guys something in the police academy that makes them see every thing that “some people” do or say as a aggressive action. It’s a mentality that will always cause problems in any community. Now if this was 79th street , they would be explaining exactly what happened to some folks that live in that area.
